MOUNTAIN BIKING
Cross-Country Paradise For novice riders, the Bristlecone Trail east of the base area and Towne Trail
to the west offer gentle, rolling terrain that is a perfect introduction to mountain biking. Intermediate riders will find terrain that is slightly more challenging from the top of the Scenic Sky Chair including Skyline Drive, which rolls across the top of the
ridge with great views of Big Bear Lake. A short, steep single-track climb takes you to Grandview Point, which is a great spot to take a break and is the starting point of a thrilling ride to Towne Trail and back to Snow Summit. This nine-mile loop is one of the
most popular rides in the area. Those who are looking for more time in the saddle can stay on Skyline Drive all the way to the Champion Lodgepole Pine then circle back to the resort making an adventurous 16 miler. Snow Summit will no longer transport downhill
specific mountain bikes on the Sky Chair during the summer months for either recreational or competitive purposes. The resort will continue to carry conventional (cross-country) mountain bikes for the public on the Sky Chair, with access off-site to Forest Service
trails and roads. The resort has taken this action because of the liability exposure and forest damage from downhill bikes. Furthermore, there will be no more biking of any kind on the ski runs. Any one of the following four factors will disqualify a bike
from being transported on the chair: 1. Bikes must be less than 35 pounds. 2. Designated tire size must be less than 2.5. 3. Front shock must have less than 6 inches of travel. 4. Bikes must have three chain rings unless they are single speed.
SCENIC SKY CHAIR RIDES
During the summer months, Snow Summit transforms one of its two high-speed quads, the East Mountain Express, into the Scenic Sky Chair. The chair lift speed is significantly reduced (lift can be stopped completely for loading
and unloading upon request) to allow guests of all ages to truly enjoy the natural beauty of Big Bear Lake and the surrounding area. The Scenic Sky Chair takes about 15 minutes to transport guests from the base elevation of 7,000 feet to a summit elevation of
8,200 feet. If you're feeling adventurous, turn your sightseeing trip into a short hike and take one of the many trails down the mountain, or just hop back on the Sky Chair for the peaceful ride down. Either way, you will enjoy spectacular views of Big Bear
Lake and the entire valley. Snow Summit and the surrounding area offer an expansive network of trails and roads, most of which are fantastic for hiking and are accessible from the top of the Scenic Sky Chair. The shortest, most direct route down the mountain
is one of the service roads on the ski area. Breathtaking views of Big Bear Lake and blooming wildflowers can be seen as you make your way down the mountain. For a longer hike, head out behind the View Haus, down to Skyline Drive (2N10) which traverses across
the ridgeline offering spectacular views of the Santa Ana River Valley and San Gorgonio Mountain. Wildflowers and Wildlife During spring and early summer months, numerous assortments of wildflowers are typically in full bloom alongside the mountain trails
and roads across the Big Bear Valley. There are wonderful varieties of song birds and hawks living near Snow Summit during the summer months. Keep your eyes peeled and you may spot a deer or young fawn slowly walking across the ski slopes or a gray squirrel running through the pine forest.
