Granite Peak   This is a 4-5 hour drive from the n/w side of Chicago . . . and *definately* worth it. I like the black diamonds but my wife and kids like the blues and greens so this is perfect for us since it has plenty of all three. says Max. Granite Peak has a very good variety of slopes and a reasonable number of lifts. On this slope you'll come across 74 different ski slopes; there are ample ski slopes for every skill. The 6 feet of ice cold snow that fall here annually keeps the coverage pleasant. A 700 foot vertical drop is naturally not that       much, but Granite Peak makes up for it in other ways. This ski resort has an average proportion of tough trails and an average percentage of beginner and intermediate slopes. Granite Peak is a full-size ski resort having a higher   than average altitude difference when compared to other mid west ski resorts. All 8 great ski lifts at this ski area are enjoyable to hitch a ride with. Snowboarding and skiing in this region is loads of fun every day of the snow season. This ski mountain has 275 acres of skiable land, and it's all in delightful shape. No other ski resort for 646 miles has a more towering elevation difference. This ski resort has a glorious range of runs; there's no way to get bored here. Loads of skiers go up here from Wausau, in particular on the weekends. Granite Peak gets covered by less than average snow each snow season. There are several great rooms near the bottom area, but you'd better book ahead of going given that these rooms fill up fast. Whether you're skiing or snowboarding, this region has a lot of ski resorts. When this part of Wisconsin is blanketed in snow; it is the most magnificent time of the year for skiing or snowboarding.
