Sun Peaks ski area Management Says:
Sun Peaks Resort is an award winning four season mountain resort destination, ranked as the 2nd best ski resort in Canada and 10th best in North America by readers of Conde Nast Traveler.
This family-friendly community boasts three impressive mountains surrounding a picturesque ski-through village filled with high quality ski-in/ski-out accommodation. Stroll along charming covered walkways, shop at boutique stores and stop for a coffee at one of many cafes and deli's scattered throughout the village. Dining options also include fine dining, family-friendly restaurants and pubs.
Nestled in the the Columbia Mountains, on a clear day you will see other mountain ranges, including the Monashee and Purcell Mountains. Skiers and snowboarders will experience dry''easy-to-ski'' powder, plenty of sunshine and a lack of crowds on long rolling cruisers, spectacular alpine bowls, and tree skiing loaded with powder. One question often asked of Sun Peaks is, why is the snow so good? Summer grooming, snowmaking, geographic location and elevation all contribute to having quality snow. Every summer, crews remove stumps, grade runs and seed grass to create a smooth surface, which means very little snow is required for perfect snow cover. Our expanded snowmaking equipment helps provide good snow cover early season as well, something that attracted the Austrian National Ski Team. The Austrians have contracted to use Sun Peaks as their November North American Training Centre leading up to the Olympics in 2010.
Sun Peaks is home to one of the largest skiable areas in Canada, with 3678 acres of skiable terrain on 122 runs, including 12 gladed areas. With access to beginner, intermediate and advanced runs from the top of every chair lift at the resort, families can ride the chair together and easily meet back at the bottom of the mountain. Take a self-guided three mountain tour or meet at the top of the Sunburst Chair daily for a guided tour with Olympic Gold Medalist and Director of Skiing, Nancy Greene.
Off the slopes, guests can experience dog sledding, snowmobiling, snowshoeing and other great adventures. There are a wide range of activities for the kids as well, such as ice skating under the stars, tubing, bungee jump trampoline or outdoor swimming at the Sports Centre.
Sun Peaks can be a destination on its own, or it can be combined with other vacation options through daily service to Kamloops and Kelowna International Airports and shuttles to Whistler and other BC resorts. Whether you're traveling as a couple or with the whole family, Sun Peaks is a modern mountain resort.
