Heavenly
| | Heavenly is a mountain in two parts. One in NV and the other on the Lake in Tahoe. The Tahoe side gives you casinos and all the resort amenities. The NV side, reached by the Kingsbury Grade (a heck of a drive) is how the locals get to Heavenly and is barebones. You need to pay attention to where you are and when on this mountain because crossing from one side of the mountain to the other takes time and the right lifts which are all subject to closure (especially |
with the wind). So plan ahead. The Tahoe side has the bulk of the long runs and the views of the Lake. The NV side is more intricate and can be a refuge from the crowds as the entire state of CA seems to show up periodically.
| If you want to boom & zoom on your board stay on the Lake side. If you want to work it go to the NV side. Overall, a pretty good mix of runs, spectacular views and decent snow. When the map shows a catwalk expect to walk. Some of them are uphill and less than fun - again its worse when the wind is up. Ridgeline is tops for views. Board on. Says Pat.
Broke my arm at Heavenly last year but I'm going back again this year. Says Eddy Adams.

ski trails to choose from; it's a nice selection. This ski hill has an average ratio of difficult trails and an average percentage of beginner and intermediate slopes. There are 31 lifts here, and they will get you up the slope efficiently.
In winter the Northern Sierra Nevada is a pure skiing or snowboarding paradise. The snow here turns genuinely deep, 30 feet per season, and that is one of the best traits of this ski resort. Nothing is better than the California highlands
in winter; they are something you can’t pass up if you're into skiing or snowboarding. Heavenly has a good array of trails; it's completely out of the question to get bored here. Whether you're skiing or snowboarding, there are lots
of great ski mountains for that in the neighborhood. Heavenly is a fuller-size than average ski mountain boasting a soaring elevation difference compared to other west coast ski areas. Skiing and snowboarding here in California is
loads of fun every day of the season. No need to hunt hard for rooms, but do reserve a room previous to going because it is a very popular destination. The snow covered highlands of the Northern Sierra Nevada is a vista worth seeing.
Getting a great workout and an opportunity to spend some time in the wilderness beats anything. The wintertime surroundings of the California hills and the especially good trails are certain to keep you returning for more.
